i have 3 stray cats that need to be adopted and 2 are kinda feral but where i live there's no shelter for cats or rescue groups i'm on income assistance and can't afford to take even my 4 cats to the vet so i need advice or a place where they could get medical attention. I live in Fort Coulonge Quebec and have no transportation. One has ear mites, worms and the other has an ear infection. I'm overwelmed by trying to save them all but i'm really not doing them any favour if i can't get them fixed or treated. HELP

I can relate to having too many cats and to wanting to help/rescue/feed so many strays that it breaks you. Last year I wasn't working (I had lost my job) and had moved to Richmond Hill, Ontario. I thought Toronto was bad (where I had moved from) as far as stray and abandoned cats go... but this street in Richmond Hill had so many cats and kittens running around it was just unbelievable. But, what ws even more disgusting ws the fact that EVERY neighbour on the street was aware of the "stray cat problem" as they called it..but yet NONE of them put a drop of food out for them. When I first moved there, all the cats were thin and sickly... but by the time I moved (a few months ago, but I continue to go back every 2nd day to put food), they were nice and healthy. Last fall I watched in horror as one kitten about 4 months old ran in front of a van (who didn't even stop) and was frozen by the headlights; he died in my arms moments later... since then, I took every single kitten in that I could trap as well as whatever adult stray cats I could get (all males... female ferals seem harder to catch and even harder to tame). In a matter of 8 weeks, I'd taken 19 cats and kittens off of that one little side street. I got all of them (except fo the last 2 males I got in the Spring) fixed (through a rescue group for a very cheap price), vaccinated and de-wormed. A(nother) woman from a very small rescue took more than half of them from me to adopt out... i think she's managed to adopt all of most of them out to wonderful homes. She also helped me feed the 37 cats (between indoor cats and outdoor cats) daily since I was out of work... and she also helped me with worm pills as most kittens are born with worms. There has to be some sort of cat rescues in Quebec that could help you by donating food to you, or even to assist you with some medication. I know that vets don't like to prescribe a medication for a "bunch of cats"... they "claim" they need to see each one (at a price of $70 or more per visit) so that they can properly diagnose them..
Anyway, not that I could offer much help in the way you are lookiing for... I just wanted to say that I am vey glad to hear that there are other people out there who are willing to help the poor abandoned and helpless animals out there... even if it means depriving themselves.
Good luck with finding them homes... but, please, please do not put them back outside...
Catherine

I suggest you contact your local shelter for a kitten, but I would also 'look' at a 'teenage' cat...check out the pics of Smudge on my profile.
I got him when he was about a year old (he's 3 1/2 now) and from the day I got him he was so full of fun (still is)...the 'kitten' in them, never leaves them.
I've had kittens and cats, and I recommend anyone to consider taking an 'older' cat...they all need loving homes.
I wish you luck in your search and please keep the rest of us posted.
