Ok, I'm going to ask this question but PLEASE, I am not trying to pick fights. This stems from a praticularly bad day at the clinic yesterday, in which I was literally yelled at by a lady who decided to look on the internet to see if the vet had gave her dog the wrong dose of a medication (and decided she had)... it just made me angy that
1. i was the one who got yelled at... i am not the vet
2. vets go to school for years and most have much experience. i'm not saying mistakes aren't made but the internet is not always the best place to be getting medical info.

I want to know why people question their veterinarians so much. I only see things from the clinics side as i work at one. We really do care about your animal and we don't try to find ways to charge people more money. ( I'm not saying there aren't quacks and jerks out there, same as human medicine ).

I was reading that Mamie was amazed that the vet didn't charge her for Sysco being at the vet for the day. We don't charge if all we do is observe an animal for the day.

Again, i'm not trying to offend or anger anyone.

I agree with you, I don't get upset at the et or the receptionist! EVER. I usually like to look up things on the net about my puppy too just in case, I try and look up a few opinions (like 10 or so) to get a general idea if it's ok. For example, my puppy is 8 months old and we just got a new roommate which has changed her routine very drastically she's used to being in her (large crate) bed for about 7 hours alone during the day, and my roommate for the last couple days has changed her schedule a bit and so she got a bit of diarrhea, and I looked up online if I could give her pepto. and the general response was yes and no so I was stumped so i called the reception at my vets office and gave them the details they put me on hold checked with my vet real quick came back and said not to, just relax keep an eye on it, make sure she has access to lots of water and if it doesn't go away in a couple days or gets worse, to bring her in.

So generally, People probably only are getting upset with you because it's their "Baby" and they want whats best and can EASILY get offended when they are told to do something then someone else tells them they are doing it wrong.

I have a lot of faith in my vet and his staff I don't believe they would ever purposely put me on the wrong track.

Sometimes in life you just have to shrug things off, people will get mad over the silliest things.

My job (what I do for a living) shouldn't even have to exist but it does- I have to convince people it's a good idea to pay their bills. You can imagine what happens to me all day when I tell people in a nice way how they have been doing it wrong.

Oh boy sk_ - I sure don't envy you! (I hated workong on receivables - and it was just a portion of my job...)
Veren: no matter where you are, or what you are doing, there is always going to be an ignorant so and so who is going to take out all their frustrations and anger on you. I find it best to use a phrase a friend once told me (although I rarely get a chance to say it out loud - dangit!): WHO PEED ON YOUR WHEATIES THIS MORNING? Really, most people who do a rant are really angry about something else and just need someone/thing to take it out on.....and are doing it inappropriately.
As for the yelling that you had to endure, I hope that you were able to eat some chocolate or drink some tea to get over it. And I do hope the twit did not try to adjust the medication according to her own so expert opinion....an Aby owner I was told about did just that - and ended up losing her cat.
I hope that next week goes better for you!

Hey Veren~ Nobody should yell at the receptionist but angry people do dumb things! I personally have questioned my old vet and no...I didnt yell at her receptionist..lol...instead at boiling point of anger I just decided to get a 2nd opinion.
Like with most medical opinions vet or doctors if your still not happy get a 2nd opinion! Yelling doesn't solve medical problems.
I knew my dog wasn't well and when our old vet started spouting off that coughing and other problems were "normal" I knew she wasn't the vet for us! Especially when she made a huge issue of getting him a heartworm test asap but didn't have an opening til 2 months from then and upon reading the brochure she thew at us it did list "coughing as a symptom " of certain kinds of worms! Then sure enough he came home later and hacked one up! Ironic? I dont think so. Still once you find the right vet I do believe if you question something or found it on the net ...why not just ask the vet! People are so easily mislead by the net nowadays it seems and think they know everything cause they read about it online...lol!

This week was a much better week, haha!

I completely agree with second opinons if you are not feeling comfortable with your vet. it makes perfect sense that you feel good about your relationship, just as with your human doctor.

Hopefully you got a good dewormer for your dog.. haha, its always lovely when they hack one up for you to see. Roundworms are my fave, we've had them try to crawl away after being pooped/coughed up.

Looking up possibilties on the net is not my problem, but self diagnosing is.

or i love the article one lady brought in (thank god before feeding her dog) that grapes were a great way to give your dog a shiny coat.... scary stuff. the net can be a great source of info, but some articles are incorrect and dangerous.

anyhow, like i said much better week. most of my favorite clients ( and patients) were in. a much needed pick me up after last week.

hopefully everyone is enjoying the spring weather! woo hoooo the dog park is not under water here anymore!

Glad to hear that you're having a better week - mine has been absolutely lousy!
I have been googling up articles on feline aggression while I wait to take Pepper back in to see the vet (this should be fun - NOT!). I am thinking that he is going to have to stay on the meds until at least past the spring and summer - and - we will have to be working on some pretty intense behaviour modifications with him. For the past two days, poor little Ruby has been shut in a bedroom for her own protection. Hubby decided tonight to let her out and all h$#@ broke loose again. This time, we got a snarling, hissing, screaming, Pepper into the bedroom where he has been locked in solitary confinement all evening. I will go in there to sleep tonight, but in the morning he will be left alone again. If he shows any sign of aggression toward me, then he will be left alone in there. We will be switching them out over the next couple of days and then try things again - this time with an airhorn or something else that can startle him out of an attack if it starts.
And all this because people don't neuter their cats! (A friend of my hubby's started this ball rolling after coming in with tom cat markings on his motorcycle pants - probably from brushing up against some bushes as he got his bike out....)
