On January 4th, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus kicked off its 2006 season in Tampa, Florida, launching yet another year of traveling the country with captive wild and exotic animals. The use of animals in the circus is an unnecessary and inhumane practice that is harmful to both the animals and the public. Wild animals are trained to perform unnatural tricks to entertain crowds through the use of barbaric tools - including bullhooks, chains, and electric prods. These tricks are unnatural, frightening, and even painful; but the industry’s mantra is "the show must go on." Even worse, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has documented that all major circuses have been cited for deficiencies in their animal care ranging from the deprivation of clean water and fresh food to clean living quarters and even the most basic shelter from weather. Even these minimal requirements are noted as not being met. It is no secret that animals in circuses spend most of their days in boxcars, cages, or chains, in conditions very different from those in which they would naturally live. Please join us in telling Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey to put a stop to such cruelty and cease using wild and exotic animals in its circuses! I have just read and signed the petition: "End the use of animals in Ringling Bros. Circuses!" http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/154928606 Thanks!

As far as I have seen the circus treat their animals very well. If they didn't they would be prosecuted for cruelty to animals. If you believe they should let their animals back into the wild then you should think that every animal owner, including yourself should do the same... Load of codswallop....

What you see in the Circus isn't what goes on behind the scenes! Unless you personally say you work in the circus with these animals and tell me that they are treated good then how do we know what is really happening??? As to pet owners returning their animals to the wild, if they treat their animals like their own kids then why? I don't consider my pets as animals they are like my children and part of the family! I do enough volunteering and have seen alot of crap that would make you mad! So if you don't have the experience then you really can't say much can you?

Or your just jumping on the bandwagon because it is a circus that keeps trained animals and thats enough for you to want everyone to sign up? This is why I dont like organisations like Peta, they rarely use their brains. Quote: The bottom-feeders at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have come up with a new way to turn children against their parents: a gruesome comic entitled "Your Daddy Kills Animals," telling kids that fathers who fish are murderers. Linkage I hope there will one day be a time where common sense prevails.

I don't want everyone to sign up, it is just some information on some serious things that people have no idea about whats going on. Trust me the last thing I do is jump the bandwagon on something that I have no idea about. Even if I didn't see it with my own eyes there is enough information on this subject to know. I am not saying all of the circus do this to their animals, but this one in particular has had their reputation with animal cruelty. And yes I agree that maybe one day common sense will prevail. Well what would this world be like if we all agreed on the same things, debates are the spice in life!
