As part of the University of California - Davis summer veterinary pharmacy rotation, PharmD students were given the opportunity to learn more about veterinary drugs through AnimalHelp.Com. Select students volunteered through their professor to research and write veterinary pharmaceutical monographs to be published in the AnimalHelp.Com Pharmaceutical Index.
"It's a win-win situation," states Jodi Witte of AnimalHelp.Com. "The PharmD students had both the opportunity to increase their knowledge of veterinary drugs and to get published on a national basis, while the 70,000 to 90,000 pet owners who visit AnimalHelp.Com each month seeking information are rewarded with an expanded pharmaceutical index containing more drug monographs then ever before."
The AnimalHelp.Com website offers pet owners a wealth of information on pet care and health, but the reference materials have always been the most utilized sections of the site. Reference materials offered include veterinary dictionary, drug and disease indexes.
"We loved working with the students at UC Davis, and really look forward to future classes participating," states Ms Witte. "We would like to pursue this same general idea with veterinary students and technician students using the other reference materials also."
AnimalHelp.Com is currently working on establishing relationships with professors of veterinary and technician schools who would be interested in offering this unique opportunity to their students as a volunteer project.
"The drug monographs and disease specifications follow a standard format which is given to the students who then research and write the information in laymen's terms for the pet owner to easily comprehend."
AnimalHelp.Com has several other opportunities available to students and professionals alike. "We are always open to article submissions on pet health and care, student journals, product reviews and career information articles for our younger audience who are interested in learning what careers are available in working with animals."
