 ABYSSINIAN DESCRIPTION
The Abyssinian looks much like the sacred cats depicted in the art of the ancient Egyptians nearly 4000 years ago.

 ABYSSINIAN HISTORY
While no one knows the true origin of the Abyssinian, this breed is rumored to have descended from the same breed that inspired the ancient Egyptians to create numerous paintings and sculptures depicting similar cats.

A cat named Zula was brought to England from Ethiopia at the end of the Abyssinian War in 1868. It is unclear as to whether Zula was native to Ethiopia, then known as Abyssinia, or not.

Later genetic testing has determined a connection to a breed found in Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean coastline. They closely resemble the African Wildcat, which is the origin of all domestic cat breeds.

 ABYSSINIAN TEMPERMENT
These are not your regular house cat. The Abyssinians are an independent, aloof, yet curious breed and while they love their privacy, they are often curious as to every aspect of their families.

The Abyssinian will happily keep themselves amused at home and seem to magically appear at dinnertime.

These entertainers of the cat world love to clown around for their families -- hiding under blankets and leaping tall bookshelves in a single bound.

 ABYSSINIAN HEALTH CONCERNS
Abyssinians are prone to tooth decay and gingivitis. If you can convince your Abyssinian to tolerate regular brushing and fluoride, this problem can be minimized.

This breed is also susceptible to amyloidosis.
