 AFGHAN HOUND DESCRIPTION
The Afghan is a sleek, elegant dog with the lines of a Greyhound and a long, luxuriant coat of fur. It is an athletic breed that has been used for hunting by nomadic tribes in Afghanistan for many years.

Originally called Persian Greyhounds on their introduction England in the early 1900's, The Afghan Hound is a striking breed that is friendly with it's family, though can be shy with strangers.

 AFGHAN HOUND HISTORY
The Afghan Hound is an ancient breed that can trace its roots back to ancient Egypt. These dogs were bred by Afghani tribesmen for hunting small animals in the cold, mountainous terrain of Afghanistan.

Afghans have always been synonymous with elegance and enjoyed immense popularity in the 1970s among the status-conscious set. Sadly, their popularity has dwindled since then and Afghans are rare in the average home today, though Afghans continue to be highly popular and competitive show dogs.

 AFGHAN HOUND TEMPERMENT
Afghan Hounds may appear delicate though they are definitely hunting dogs and need to stretch their legs on a daily basis.

They can be stubborn in responding to their owner's commands and are known to chase small animals when outside.

Afghans are gentle with children, though not necessarily the most friendly and affectionate of breeds.
