 AKITA DESCRIPTION
The Akita is a strong dog, often more so than its already large size would suggest. They are firecely loyal to their families and can be aloof to aggressive with strangers and other dogs.

Akitas are often employed as guard and police dogs in Japan.

 AKITA HISTORY
The Akita breed can trace its roots back to 17th century Japan and an exiled Japanese aristocrat that had been exiled to the Akita Prefecture in the northern island of Honshu. This nobleman had challenged his new neighbours to develop a new breed of hunting dog.

Akitas are revered as a national treasure in Japan. They were introduced to America in 1937 by servicemen returning home from World War II and the breed has grown steadily more popular since.

 AKITA TEMPERMENT
Akitas are strong, independant and loyal dogs that can be stubborn. They are very affectionate and devoted to their family and will protect them when they feel threatened. Akitas are strong-willed dogs and may not be the best choice for every family.

 AKITA HEALTH CONCERNS
