 ALASKAN MALAMUTE DESCRIPTION
Alaskan Malamutes are a compact, muscular Nordic breed. They were bred to pull heavy items in the Arctic and were not built for speed. Their double-layer fur coats are thick and dense keeping them very warm in Arctic climates where they originated.

Alaskan Malamutes are often wolf-like in appearance, though with a softer, domesticated personality.

 ALASKAN MALAMUTE HISTORY
The Alaskan Malamute is part of the spitz family and comes from the frozen Arctic. While the origins of the Malamute are unclear, they have been documented as being regular companions of the native Inuit people, known as the Mahlemuts who lived on Alaska's northwest coast.

These dogs were used to haul the seals and polar bears that the Mahlemut people hunted and developed their characteristic strength and endurance that allowed them to pull heavy loads over long distances in the freezing cold.

Over the years, Alaskan Malamutes have been a common sight in Arctic and Antarctic expeditions as well as being employed as search and rescue dogs.

 ALASKAN MALAMUTE TEMPERMENT
Alaskan Malamutes can be a handful. They crave being able to run freely in wide-open spaces. Without regular exercise, these dogs grow bored quickly and will become frustrated or even destructive while trying to amuse themselves. These dogs are known to dig and howl.

They are friendly towards familiar people, but can be aggressive around other pets or animals.
